Formerly a church "Brentwood Methodist Church"
Methodism arrived in Brentwood with the extension of the railway from Romford in the presence of a navvy called Wilcox, around 1840. He started holding weekly meetings from his lodgings at the top of Weald Road at its junction with London Road. The site was later occupied by the “Sir Charles Napier” until it was demolished in 2009 to enable a road development scheme (which is still to be completed!). However, the landlord was not keen on meetings in the bedrooms, so in the best traditions of Methodist preachers he was forced to lead the service outside.
In 2013, a Brother offered his property for use as a prayer room. We opened a prayer room that would accommodate small number of people. We offered Jamaat prayers 5 times a day, Jummah prayer on Fridays, and Eid Salah.
By 2015, we managed to add an extra room by converting the garden, accommodating up to few more people. With these rooms and amenities, we offered madrassa for children, ladies tajweed classes, adult Arabic classes, hifz classes, monthly gatherings, as well as helping people in the community who required support. We were even able to provide information for those who wanted to know more about Islam and revert to Islam. Zakat donations were send to people in need to Egypt and other countries.
By 2021, We found this property for sale and reaching the target to buy this property was next to impossible initially, by grace of Allah (SWT) we completed sale of this property by end of the year.
Alhamdulilah, with the help of Allah SWT we managed to buy this property on 22.12.2021 and received keys at 5pm. Which officially becomes first masjid in Brentwood. We have been praying regular salah with jamaat, since we got the keys. InshaAllah we continue our services to our community with best.
